Truck drivers, the life blood of the supply chain body, are still hemorrhaging out of the cab. Shipping containers at intermodal sites are piled sky high, because there aren’t enough drivers to hook & drop loads. Retail stores are losing loyal customers, because their shelves are depressingly bare. And frankly, the economic future at this time is CODE BLUE.
Why? It’s definitely NOT because shipping centers are closed during the midnight hours. – Hey, why should truckers pick up a load at 3 a.m. and deliver it to a receiving dock that’s closed until the business opens at 8 – or after the weekend?
Truckers need to sleep too. And there are very few SAFE places to park & sleep while they wait for the unloaders to arive at work next day. Just take a look at recent news reports of muggings, murders & cargo thefts at loading docks, rest areas and truck stops.
But mostly, truckers have been “retiring” from the road because of government malpractice & industrial greed.
Medical misdiagnosis is a leading cause of death in hospitals, as is political ineptness in government. For example, a handful of truckers earning $100K to $300K per year is not a symptom of greedy trucker syndrome. Probably they are experienced tanker, hazmat or oversized load drivers who, like the rest of the trucking community, have to deal with high fuel prices, even higher insurance policies, random drug tests, interstate/international fuel taxes, spycams on the dashboard, increasingly hostile drivers in passenger cars, and a severe shortage of parts needed to repair broken semis & trailers.
And did I mention looming COVID mandates, bad roads & LONGGG hours away from home???
Support truckers with less regulation, safer parking spaces, lower insurance & fuel prices – and you’ll see a healthier economy ahead.
